Citizen Police Academy

The East Hartford Police Department is committed to the operation of its Citizen Police Academy in order to foster a climate of mutual understanding, communication, and cooperation between the members of the Department and the community it serves. The primary objective of the Citizen Police Academy program is to afford citizens, workers, students, and business owners within the community, 18 years of age or older, with no felony convictions or significant criminal history, an opportunity to get a first-hand overview into the operations of the Department. Classes are typically held in either the Spring or Fall, once a week for three hours, for eight weeks, at the Public Safety Complex.

Applications for the Fall 2025 Session are Open Now!

The Citizen Police Academy is geared towards citizens who reside, work, own a business, or are a student in East Hartford. This is a unique opportunity for citizens to learn about their police department and the work they perform in the community. The academy provides an overview of police operations, practices, and objectives. East Hartford has one of the finest Police Departments in the state because of the men and women who serve as our Police Officers. The Citizen Academy is a behind the scenes look at what makes our PD special, where residents are offered the opportunity to see firsthand how exemplary police work is performed. Participation and completion in the Academy allows citizens to walk away with a greater appreciation of the whole body of work that keeps our community safe.

Classes will run every Thursday for ten weeks, starting September 18th, from 6:00 PM until 9:00 PM, in the East Hartford Police Department’s Training Classroom. This session will end in November 2025.

The application deadline is Monday, September 1st, 2025. Anyone needing further information should contact Officer Jonathan Young at (860) 528-4401, extension 7547 or email jyoung@easthartfordct.gov.
