The East Hartford Police Department tracks all reported crime using the FBI's National Incident Based Reporting System (NIBRS). NIBRS is the National standard for Law Enforcement crime data reporting in the United States. It improves the overall quality of crime data collected by capturing detailed characteristics of each crime incident. It also tracks relationships of separate offenses within the same incident, to include information on victims, known offenders, relationships between victims and offenders, arrestees, and property involved in crimes. Each week, a report is run to examine the most serious crimes being investigated and what can be done to prevent future incidents.

Crime Prevention Tips:
Many of our stolen vehicles were taken with the keys or key fobs left inside them, often left running to warm up in the morning or while going inside a store for a brief errand.
Please,

  • Take your vehicle's key or key fob with you; do not leave it in or on your vehicle.
  • Close and lock all windows and doors when you park.
  • Park in well-lit areas if possible.
  • Never leave valuables in your vehicle, especially if they can be seen from outside the vehicle.
  • Report suspicious activity immediately via 9-1-1 or our main number, (860) 528-4401
