East Hartford School Readiness

The East Hartford School Readiness Council was established in response to a statewide initiative of the State of CT Office of Early Childhood and allocates substantial funds to increase the number of young children who have access to high quality preschool and child day care programs. The primary goal of the Council is to support the positive development, education, and well-being of young children -- ensuring that every child in East Hartford starts school "ready to learn."

The Town of East Hartford along with the East Hartford Public Schools, as fiduciary, in partnership with the School Readiness Council, annually applies for the Connecticut State Department of Education School Readiness Grant and Quality Enhancement Grant. School Readiness funds may be used to purchase spaces for preschool children from NAEYC accredited center-based programs or programs seeking NAEYC accreditation, including for-profit or not-for profit preschool programs, public school preschool programs, Head Start programs, and state funded day care programs.

Families of three and four year olds are eligible to participate in quality preschool and child care programs at affordable rates. Fees for participation in the program are charged on a sliding fee scale based on family income and size. Preschool and child day care programs in town have spaces available for preschoolers. Families who are interested in an affordable preschool or child care program for their child may contact any one of the School Readiness providers.
