WIC, the USDA Special Supplemental Nutrition Program for Women, Infants and Children, is a regional, federally funded health care program.

The Town of East Hartford has administered this program since 1975. WIC provides supplemental foods, nutrition education, breastfeeding promotion, and ensures the provision of medical insurance and immunizations to approximately 3,500 low-income families in a 19-town eastern Connecticut area.

Each year, WIC disburses over 3 million dollars in food and provides maternal and child health assistance through the conduct of nearly 15,000 patient visits.

The agency is credited for reducing infant mortality, anemia, obesity and low birth weight babies and for assisting children during their critical stages of growth and development. WIC participation is based upon the determination of nutritional risk and meeting income eligibility guidelines.

WIC, el Programa de Nutrición Suplementaria Especial del USDA para Mujeres, Bebés y Niños, es un programa regional de atención médica financiado por el gobierno federal.
La ciudad de East Hartford ha administrado este programa desde 1975. WIC proporciona alimentos suplementarios, educación nutricional, promoción de la lactancia materna y garantiza la provisión de seguro médico e inmunizaciones a aproximadamente 3,500 familias de bajos ingresos en un área de 19 ciudades al este de Connecticut.

Cada año, WIC desembolsa más de 3 millones de dólares en alimentos y brinda asistencia de salud maternoinfantil mediante la realización de casi 15,000 visitas de pacientes.
A la agencia se le atribuye el mérito de reducir la mortalidad infantil, la anemia, la obesidad y los bebés con bajo peso al nacer y de ayudar a los niños durante sus etapas críticas de crecimiento y desarrollo. La participación en WIC se basa en la determinación del riesgo nutricional y en el cumplimiento de las pautas de elegibilidad de ingresos.
