Bicycle Safety

Bicycles are considered vehicles and should obey all traffic laws while riding with the flow of traffic and being attentive to their surroundings. If and when available, please utilize the provided bicycle lane. A properly fitted helmet should be worn along with highly visible clothing. When cycling at night, reflective and/or bright colored clothing should be worn and bicycles should be equipped with both a head lamp and tail lamp.

Bicyclists have the same rights and responsibilities as drivers of motor vehicles. To read more information regarding CT laws and biking in East Hartford access the informational brochure, What Every Connecticut Resident Should Know About Bicycle Lanes.

                                                                                                                                                                  Bike Helmets:

In Connecticut the bicycle helmet law requires anyone under the age of sixteen to wear a helmet while riding a bicycle. For those over the age of 16 helmets can prevent head injuries, the primary cause of death and disabling injuries resulting from cycling accidents.
