East Hartford Police and Health Departments Urge Residents to Maintain Social Distancing, Refrain from Gathering

social distancing

While the vast majority of people are taking social distancing seriously, there have been examples of gatherings that should not be happening. Our Police and Health departments are monitoring businesses that are open under the Governor’s order, as well as other areas within East Hartford to make sure everyone is complying with guidelines. These measures are consistent with guidance from the CDC to protect the people of our community and slow the spread of the COVID-19 disease. Officials are looking for voluntary compliance. While enforcement is possible for failing to comply with Executive Orders, doing so is a last resort. The intent of the Orders is to engage residents in willing cooperation.

Upon receiving reports of non-compliance, Town Officials and/or Officers will attempt to address these situations as they arise in the following manner:

  • Officials/Officers will identify the responsible party and educate them regarding the governor’s order.
  • Officials/Officers will warn the responsible party that continued violation will result in enforcement.
  • Officials/Officers will proceed with enforcement and/or criminal charges, if appropriate.

*NOTE* - Egregious or extreme cases will be handled differently

Please, let’s all remember to be calm.  With patience and diplomacy we will all get through this pandemic together.
