For Immediate Release: 2/03/2023

East Hartford, CT - On 2/2/23, just after 10:30 P.M., two suspects wearing black ski masks entered the business of 1285 Main St. (Humble & Paid CO.) with the intention of committing a robbery. A brief struggle took place between the store clerk and one of the suspects who pulled out a firearm. During the struggle, the clerk was shot in the back by the suspect. The store clerk was able to return fire with two of his legally registered firearms, striking one of the suspects several times. 

Officers on scene provided life saving measures for the suspect who was shot until the East Hartford Fire Department arrived on scene. The suspect was transported by ASM to the hospital where he was pronounced deceased. 

 The store clerk was also treated on scene for a gunshot wound to the lower back. The store clerk was transported to the hospital for non-life-threatening injuries. 

The second suspect was reported to have run out of the building during the initial struggle. The second suspect has not been located at this time. 

We are not releasing names of the victims or suspects at this time. We will update with more information as it becomes available.
