East Hartford Police Department Issues a Parking Ban

East Hartford, CT - Due to the impending snow, an on-street parking ban has been established in the Town of East Hartford, Connecticut. This parking ban will take effect on:

Thursday, February 24, 2022 at 10:00 PM and will remain in effect through  Friday, February 25, 2022 (11:59 PM).

If there are any questions, please call East Hartford Police at:  (860) 528-4401.

Residents are urged to make adequate preparations for the snow, cold temperatures and potetially dangerous roads:

BEFORE THE STORM:

  • Get supplies you might need for the weekend
  • Gas up generators
  • Fill prescriptions
  •  Get house ready
  • Have a plan
  • Check smoke and CO detectors
  • Charge electronics

DURING THE STORM:

  • Stay inside and warm
  • Don’t travel unless it is an emergency
  • Stay informed

POST STORM:

  • Be Careful
  • Dress in layers
  • Clear cars completely before driving
  • Take breaks when shoveling
  • Use Caution When Traveling: Budget extra time for your travel, go slow and watch out for other motorists and pedestrians
  • Give Way to Emergency Vehicles: Please use caution and make way for emergency vehicles and snow plows.
  • Clear Your Sidewalks, Driveways, & Crosswalks: Be aware of the ordinances for shoveling sidewalks, which are covered in Section 18-38, stating that all property owners are responsible for maintaining and clearing snow and ice from the sidewalk that abuts their property and have 8 hours after a storm to clear their sidewalks. If a storm ends overnight, the property owner then has the next 8 hours of daylight to clear their sidewalk, before they are issued a warning and then subsequently fined.

Other important winter tips to consider include: Waiting until your street is plowed to clear your driveway so you can avoid having to clear it twice. Please don’t pile the snow back into the street. Using common sense while shoveling, in terms of physical exertion, and being safety-conscious while operating a snow blower; Being mindful of parking bans in effect, which helps with the town’s snow removal operations and the passage of emergency vehicles; Dressing in layers and using many thin, warm layers rather than a few thick layers, allowing your body to insulate better. Additionally, if using a generator, be mindful to place it at least 20 feet away from your home, windows, doors and vents to avoid deadly Carbon Monoxide fumes.
