East Hartford, CT - The East Hartford Police Department announces the implementation of a new Intelligence Center.  Located within the East Hartford Public Safety Complex at 31 School Street, the Intelligence Center will bring together new crime fighting technology, coupled with a Street Security Camera system, to enhance the Department’s ability to fight crime and keep the community safe.  As part of the project, twelve street cameras will be installed at locations throughout Town to monitor traffic, weather conditions and to help investigate criminal activity.

“These cameras will be situated in publicly accessible areas and will be utilized in a transparent, professional and ethical manner in an effort to ensure safety of the East Hartford community and visitors,” said Mayor Marcia Leclerc.

While the cameras will not be monitored 24-hours a day, all video will be stored and accessible to law enforcement for at least 30-days in accordance with State of Connecticut retention standards.  The project partners the Police Department with the East Hartford Board of Education to assist with traffic issues around school buildings,

and also the East Hartford Public Works Department to provide snow-ban information to the public.  Mounted nearby each camera will be a blue strobe light and sign indicating that a parking ban is in effect when the blue light is flashing.

Cameras in East Hartford will be at the following locations:

  • Burnside Avenue at School Street
  • School Street at Park Avenue
  • Burnside Avenue at Larrabee Street
  • 101 Great Hill Road at Mayberry School
  • Burnside Avenue at Hillside Street
  • Burnside Avenue at Beaumont Street
  • Main Street at Burnside Avenue
  • Main Street at Connecticut Boulevard
  • Governor Street at Prospect Street
  • 1692 Main Street at EH Fire House #2
  • Main Street at Prospect Street
  • Burnside Avenue at Walnut Street

Locations for the cameras were selected utilizing data from service-call hot zone maps, then revised based on available connections through existing infrastructure.  All locations changes or additions will be announced publicly by the Police Department.

“This Center will be the cornerstone of a new intelligence-led policing effort by the Department,” said Police Chief Scott Sansom.  “East Hartford Police Officers will be using today’s technology to detect, deter and come up with solutions to address crime in Town, with the ultimate goal of making our community safer,” Sansom added.

The East Hartford Police Intelligence Center and street security cameras are expected to go live later this year.
