Weather Alert: Winter Storm: February 22, 2026

Forecast models are showing an anticipated approximate10-24 inches of snow across most of the state, beginning Sunday, February 22 and through Monday, February 23, leading to significant travel disruptions. Winds are anticipated at 20-30 mph, with gusts at 40-50 mph. Due to the potential for high winds, residents should be prepared for the possibility of power outages. Please see the following important information below:

TOWN FACILITY IN-PERSON SERVICES SUSPENDED

On Monday, February 23 the following Town buildings will be closed to the public: Town Hall, Raymond Library, Wickham Library, East Hartford Community Center, WIC and East Hartford Senior Center. There will be no in-person services, but online and over-the-phone services will still be available. Regular in-person operations will resume on Tuesday, February 24.

TRASH AND RECYCLING DELAYED BY ONE DAY

On Monday, February 23, trash and recycling pickup will be suspended, and pickup will be delayed by one day for the remainder of the week.

PARKING BAN:

There will be an on-street parking ban effective Sunday, February 22 at 5 p.m. until Tuesday, February 24 at 8 a.m.

The parking ban will be signified by the blinking blue light on street light poles at key road intersections throughout town.

Residents are urged to not park on the street during a parking ban to allow Town crews to plow roads efficiently and effectively.

The East Hartford Public Works Department will be fully staffed and operational to ensure all local roads are plowed. Please know, East Hartford Public Works crews only plow town roads. Silver Lane, Main Street and Burnside Avenue are state roads and therefore are plowed by the State Department of Transportation. The Town’s first priority is to plow heavily-traveled roads, called arterial and collector roads. Crews will plow down the middle to allow the flow of traffic and give access to emergency vehicles. They will then return several times to clear towards the curb, and, lastly, crews will handle less traveled roads and culs-de-sac.

Parking Options in Town Parks

Residents who have little to no access to off-street parking may park in the following neighborhood recreational park locations when parking bans are in effect. Public Works have delineated parking areas in these neighborhood parks, placed clear signage and maintain the parking areas during snow parking bans. Residents who choose to park at these local parks during a snow ban do so at their own risk.

Individuals can park at the following parks during an on-street snow ban:

  • Alumni Park (1021 Main St)
  • McAuliffe Park (30 Remington Road)
  • Martin Park (307 Burnside Ave)
  • Labor Field Park (Woodlawn Circle)
  • Shea Park (66 Mercer Ave)
  • Elm St. Linear Park

Once the snow storm is over, residents will be required to remove their vehicles from the parks within eight (8) hours.

WARMING CENTER

The East Hartford Warming Center, located at New Covenant United Methodist Church (16 Church Street), will be open 24 hours a day throughout the duration of the Governor's Severe Cold Weather Protocol Activation, which begins Sunday, February 22 at 12:00 p.m. until at least Tuesday, February 24 at 12:00 p.m. Space is available on a first-come-first-served basis. For additional shelter needs, call 2-1-1.

WINTER WEATHER TIPS:

Residents are urged to make adequate preparations for the snow, cold temperatures and dangerous roads:

  • Clear Your Sidewalks, Driveways, & Crosswalks: Be aware of the ordinances for shoveling sidewalks, which are covered in Section 18-38, stating that all property owners are responsible for maintaining and clearing snow and ice from the sidewalk that abuts their property and have 8 hours after a storm to clear their sidewalks. If a storm ends overnight, the property owner then has the next 8 hours of daylight to clear their sidewalk, before they are issued a warning and then subsequently fined. Please remember that if there is a fire hydrant located on your property, we ask that you clear away snow and ice within a 3 foot perimeter around the hydrant as well as clearing a path from the hydrant to the street in order to support any potential emergency access needs.

  • Use Caution When Traveling: Budget extra time for your travel, go slow and watch out for other motorists and pedestrians. It is recommended that you avoid travel entirely, if at all possible.

  • Give Way to Emergency Vehicles: Please use caution and make way for emergency vehicles and snow plows.

  • East Hartford Public Works offers free salt for residents to use on their residential driveways. The Town does not offer salt for commercial use.
