Bi-Annual East Hartford Cemetery Clean Up to Begin October 15

Cemetery Cleanup - by October 15, 2017

The Public Works Department announced today that all cemetery decorations and adornments must be removed from the cemeteries owned and operated by the Town of East Hartford by Sunday, October 15, 2017, in accordance with cemetery rules and regulations.

Fall maintenance and cleanup of the cemeteries has begun and maintenance staff will be disposing of all items if they are not removed by this date. The Public Works Department asks that anyone owning cemetery decorations pick them up prior to this date if they wish to keep them.

The following items will be removed after October 15:

Bric-A-Brac: including figurines, statues not part of the memorial and stacked stones

Concrete products: Ceramic and concrete pots not connected to the memorial

Crosses: wood, metal, plastic, palms, etc. that are not part of the memorial or stuck in the ground

Decorations: balloons, flags, banners, pinwheels, tinsel, toys, clothing, etc.

Faded Flowers and dead plants (real or plastic)

Fencing of any type (metal, plastic, etc.) around memorials

Glass jars of any type

Hanging planter holders

Holiday ornamentation: Christmas, Easter and any commercial holidays

Lights: Votive, solar, etc.

Metal Urns and containers

Name plates six months past the burial date

Pictures of any type

Planted fruit or decorative trees and bushes around the memorial that were not approved

Please note that in the Military Veterans’ Section any decoration, other than a plant, service medallion and flag, will be removed
