East Hartford Parks & Recreation Department welcomes two new Recreation Supervisors!

The East Hartford Parks & Recreation Department recently added two new additions to its  programming staff.  Sharon O’Neil and Jonathan Cooper started full time with Department in July and spent the summer getting acquainted with the aquatic and summer camp programs.

Sharon O’Neil is the Recreation Supervisor who oversees Aquatics as well as other areas.  Sharon graduated from the University of Connecticut with a degree in Human Development and Family Studies.  She’s been working full-time in the Parks and Recreation field for the past 14 years for the towns of Mansfield and Newington. “Since I began working here, I’ve been continually impressed with everyone who works for the Parks and Recreation Department, and I’m excited about what our team will be able to accomplish for the community.  I have always been passionate about aquatics and I want to make sure that every resident in East Hartford has the opportunity to enjoy swimming, and learn how to be safe in and around the water”, said Sharon.  “I’m most looking forward to increasing participation in our swim lessons and aquatics programs, but I’m also looking forward to planning special events for the community, such as our upcoming Boo Bash, a Halloween Party for children in grades 5 and under.”  In her free time, Sharon spends time with her family, and enjoys taking her two young children to local programs and events.   Sharon can be reached at soneil@easthartfordct.gov.

Jonathan Cooper is the Recreation Supervisor focusing on Summer Camps and youth programs. Jonathan received his B.S. in Exercise Science & Health Promotion from Central Connecticut State University.  He has a diverse background working with communities and people, as a Parks & Recreation Professional, American College of Sports Medicine- Exercise Physiologist, a K-12 Certified Youth Sports Educator and Football, Lacrosse and Exercise Club coach. “I pride myself on being able to inspire and educate individuals across various demographics, to make for a healthier community.” Jon is passionate about being able to connect with people to enable their psychological and physical growth.  Jonathan has enjoyed witnessing the camp staff bring happiness to the children of East Hartford. “ As a resident of East Hartford, it is a honor and  privilege to serve the community in which I live.” Jonathan is looking forward to all of the future events developed by the Parks & Recreation Department. Most notable he is enthused to be planning and being a part of this year’s Fall Fest and growing the Special Olympics program.  In his free time, he enjoys days at his residence in East Hartford with his newlywed and dog, and taking weekend trips around New England.  Jon can be reached at jcooper@easthartfordct.gov
