Claims for Property Damage From a Town Street or Road

Any claim alleging property damage from a Town street or road should be submitted by letter to the Office of the Town Clerk. Please include the following:

  • Your name, address and contact phone numbers.
  • The date and time of the incident.
  • The exact location of the incident.
  • A description of the incident.
  • Identify any witnesses to the incident.
  • Indicate if the police or fire departments was notified.
  • An invoice for repair of the property damage.
  • Any photos of the alleged defect in the town road or street.
  • Any photos of the property damage.

Your notice to the Town Clerk’s office will be forwarded to the Town’s insurance company for investigation and determination of any liability by the Town.

Please note you are responsible for complying with any state laws regarding property damage incurred from a town street or road and you may want to consult an attorney in submitting this notice to the Town Clerk’s office.
