Get Outside and Enjoy All East Hartford Has to Offer

Summer is here and the weather is great! East Hartford has so many fabulous opportunities for residents to take advantage of during the summer months. I urge everyone to get outside; explore our parks, pools and walking trails and discover something new about the great town we live in.

Our fantastic Parks team and our dedicated Public Works Department have been working hard to make our parks look great for the season, and made improvements thate make our parks even better. There are new swings and benches being installed at Hockanum Park and a new playscape on the Town Green. Starting after the July 4 holiday, the Town will also resurface two basketball courts in front of Hockanum School, install a new parking lot at Labor Field and completely rebuild and expand the Tennis Courts at the East Hartford High School.

If you aren’t willing to wait there is still plenty to do! Our Town’s five outdoor pools are now open for the season, and swimming lessons are available, taught by our able Parks staff. We also have an unbelievable network of walking, hiking and biking trails, including the Hockanum Trail and the East Coast Greenway, running through our town.

Residents wishing to host parties at picnic areas in town parks can get permits at the Parks and Recreation office at 50 Chapman Place. Our town boat launch is also open for the season, with permits available in the parks office. For information on all of these amenities and a full schedule of pools, camps, and events, visit our Parks and Recreation Department webpage at www.easthartfordct.gov/parks-recreation

Our summer concert series will also kick off Thursday, June 30 at Great River Park, with the Goza Band, and run every Thursday until August 11, alternating weeks at Great River Park and the Town Green. You can find a full schedule with bands and locations on the Parks Department website.

Parks and Recreation is also hosting two Summer Splash Parties, Sunday, July 24 from 1-4PM at Lord Pool and Friday, July 29 from 5-7:30PM at Martin Pool. These events are a great way to beat the heat and have fun for the entry family with pool games, arts and crafts and music.
