Submit a Permit Application or Request a Zoning Compliance Letter:
- Zoning Permit Application - A Zoning Permit for separate activities regulated by the Zoning Regulations which do not require a Building Permit such as construction of small accessory structures such as sheds, commercial tenant fit-ups or changes of use, work within the flood Hazard Zone and excavation or addition of earth, sand, stone, soil any other earth products onto a property.
- Portable and Temporary Signs Application - Permit for Portable and Temporary Business Signs such as A-Frames, Temporary Signs and Banners.
- Zoning Compliance Letter Application - A request for Zoning Compliance Letter may require the property owner to schedule a Zoning Compliance Inspection of the property. Requests will be processed in a timely manner, but may take 1-3 weeks to inspect and review.

Information:
The Department of Inspections and Permits has the responsibility of enforcing the Zoning Regulations of the Town of East Hartford. Expansions of buildings, changes of uses on properties, and proposed new construction must be verified as to compliance with use, bulk, area and other provisions that regulate matters related to health, safety, and welfare and promote appropriate growth and economic development within the town.
We work closely with the Department of Development and Planning. If you are a new business considering moving into East Hartford we encourage you to contact them first. We provide staff support for the Zoning Board of Appeals which considers applications to variances of the requirements of the Zoning Regulations and appeals to orders and decisions of zoning enforcement staff.
