America 250 Proclamation & Upcoming Events

At the East Hartford Town Council Meeting on Tuesday evening June 2, 2026, Mayor Connor S. Martin issued a proclamation in honor of the 250th Anniversary of American Independence. The proclamation recognizes the Town of East Hartford’s participation in this nationwide celebration, noting that “preserving, studying, and enjoying our Nation’s and State’s history strengthens communities, builds pride and forges bonds between Connecticut residents.” The proclamation further encourages all town residents “to fully engage with our past” and “to work together in addressing the challenges of the 21st century and building a more equitable and prosperous society for all.”
All residents are invited to participate in upcoming America250 events in town.
Upcoming program highlights include a performance by the Windham Concert Band at Great River Park, Monday, July 6, 2026 at 6 pm (rain date: July 7) and “Sharing the Spirit of America,” a nationwide simultaneous reading of the Declaration of Independence at the East Hartford Raymond Library on Wednesday, July 8, 2026 beginning at 5:45 pm.
About East Hartford Public Library’s America250 programming: In recognition of America250, our mission is to align with the guidance of the CT 250 Commission and to explore how the ideals of the Declaration of Independence have shaped our history. We recognize the power of place and embrace the unique identity and contributions of our community within the state. We seek to find stories that were previously untold or under-told, so all residents can see themselves reflected in the 250+ year history of our nation.
