East Hartford Library Makerspace Invites you to Attend Special Winter Programs

East Hartford, CT—East Hartford Library Makerspace invites you to participate in a series of fun winter programs. Curious about the Maker movement? Want to learn more about 3D printing? Enjoy crafts? All skill levels are welcome at the East Hartford Public Library Makerspace, where our programming runs the gamut from low-tech to high-tech. Join us this winter in the Creative Commons on the second floor of the library for interactive programs, instruction, and more! For programs requiring registration, you may register online here or by calling the reference desk at 860-290-4331. Unless otherwise noted, programs are best-suited for teens and adults.

  • Crafts

Upcoming craft programs include Hand-Sewing 101 on Wednesday, January 15 from 6:00 – 7:00 PM. Wondering how to sew a button, hem clothing, repair a hole in a sock, or create a simple decorative pillow? Learn basic hand-sewing techniques in a small group setting. Bring a project that you would like to work on or use our sewing supplies to practice simple stitches on sample fabric.

Interested in creating your own personalized necklace or charm for yourself or a loved one? Join us on either Thursday, January 16 from 6:00 – 7:30 PM or Tuesday, January 21 from 10:00 – 11:00 AM for metal stamping. On Thursday, February 6 at 7:30 PM, come and learn how to make a heart pendant out of beads and wire (registration required). For more jewelry-making, come to the library on Tuesday, February 18 from 10:00 – 11:30 AM and make a star cluster pendant (registration required).

Celebrate Valentine’s Day with a craft program in the Makerspace on Wednesday, February 5 from 5:30 – 6:30 PM, or Tuesday, February 11 from 10:00 – 11:00 AM. Dive into our craft supplies to create one-of-a-kind Valentine’s Day cards for your family and friends!

Creative Arts

On Mondays from 4:00 – 7:00 PM, stop by the Makerspace to explore your creativity on your own or as part of a group project. Library staff will offer a range of projects, including animation, 3D modeling, Silhouette Cameo vinyl cutting and more.

Join us for a fun animation program!

January 6, February 3-Green Screen

Learn about our green screen! Take a fun picture or make a short movie!

January 27-Tinker Creatures

Create a custom joined creature that we will 3D print for you to keep!

February 24-Paint Night

Create some original art! Each painting will be unique. Please register.

Our Makerspace has 3D printers, a Carvey desktop CNC machine, sewing machines, an embroidery machine, a Silhouette Cameo 3, and more. Join us during open hours to explore our resources and work on your own projects.

We will hold special “family” open hours on Thursday, December 26: make a button or take a picture in front of our green screen. On Thursday, February 27, learn about the Carvey, our desktop CNC machine.
