Presentation, Documentary Screening, and Day Trip

East Hartford, CT—The East Hartford Commission on Culture and Fine Arts and the East Hartford Public Library invite you to participate in three events celebrating the life and work of famed poet Emily Dickinson!

On Saturday, June 15, join the Commission for a trip to Amherst MA to visit Emily Dickinson’s home and museum, as well as her brother’s home The Evergreens. Included in the tour are:

  • An in-depth focus on Emily Dickinson’s life and family and the major influences on her writing;
  • The parlors, library, and the poet’s bedroom at the Homestead;
  • The library, parlor, dining room, kitchen, maid’s room, water closet, nursery at The Evergreens.

Prior to the trip, join us at the Raymond Library, 840 Main Street, East Harford for two events to prepare us for the tour:

  • On Thursday, June 6 at 6pm for a presentation on Dickinson’s life and work by Jason Pannone, Head of Reference & Cultural Assets Manager. 
  • On Thursday, June 13 at 5pm we will view the 2017 documentary "MY LETTER TO THE WORLD."

All are welcome to attend the talk and documentary screening. Registration for both programs at the Library is suggested but not required.

Pre-registration for the tour is required – the details:

  • Cost: $20 (this includes the tour and tip for bus driver) (Travel provided by Commission), payment to be made to East Hartford Public Library
  • Saturday, June 15, 8:30 am – Depart from parking lot of East Hartford Cultural Community Center, 50 Chapman Place.
  • Arrive in Amherst at 9:45 am for tour at 10am.  The tour lasts about 1 hour.
  • After tour, enjoy free time to walk around and have lunch before returning to East Hartford at 2pm.
