East Hartford Library Celebrating the Life and Work of Painters Thomas Cole and Frederic Edwin Church

East Hartford, CT—Join the East Hartford Commission on Culture and Fine Arts and the East Hartford Public Library for two events exploring the life and work of famed Hudson River School painters Thomas Cole and Hartford native Frederic Edwin Church.

On Thursday, September 5, at 6 pm, Jason Pannone, Head of Reference & Cultural Assets Manager will present “The Hudson River School: Origins, Influences, and Context--Thomas Cole and F.E. Church.” Here, we’ll examine Cole and Church’s life and work, especially in relation to the larger Romantic movement of the early 19th century.

On Sunday, September 8, join the Commission for a trip to Hudson, New York to visit both the Thomas Cole House and Frederick Church’s house, Olana. The bus will leave the East Hartford Community Cultural Center, 50 Chapman Place, East Hartford, at 8:15 am, and will return to East Hartford around 6:30 pm.

All are welcome to attend the trip and talk. Both programs are suitable for older teens and adults.

Preregistration for bus trip is required. The cost for the day is $65, cash or check. (We are currently unable to accept debit or credit cards). Checks should be made payable to the East Hartford Public Library. Lunch is included in the cost of the trip.
