Boost your child’s reading skills at the library!

children reading program

East Hartford, CT—East Hartford Public Library continues to introduce new programs and services for the benefit of our community. This time, the library has partnered with Children’s Reading Partners to bring free reading tutors to East Hartford. Volunteers are trained to build and improve the reading skills of children in kindergarten through sixth grade.

Children’s Reading Partners is an initiative of the Jewish Community Relations Council, part of the Jewish Foundation of Greater Hartford, an affiliate of the National Jewish Coalition for Literacy. Major grant funding is provided by the Jewish Community Foundation of Greater Hartford, SBM Charitable Foundation, the Jeffrey P. Ossen Family Foundation, People’s United Community Foundation, and George A. & Grade L. Long Foundation at Bank of America.

As part of this new exciting program, volunteers are paired with children and meet at the library for weekly 30-minute sessions. Each volunteer commits to working with the same child throughout the school year on a weekly basis, ensuring a noticeable progress. Sessions will take place at the library from late October 2019 through May 2020.

An application is required to participate. Applications are available at the East Hartford Public Library, children’s desk, or contact Cathy Potter, head of children’s and teen services: cpotter@easthartfordct.gov, 860-290-4333.

The East Hartford Public Library is located at 840 Main St., East Hartford, CT.
