East Hartford to Offer Four Flu Clinics

Flu Clinic

The Town of East Hartford will sponsor four Flu Clinics in the fall for residents who have not yet received a flu vaccine.

The clinics will be available for both children and adults. Unlike previous years when the Town of East Hartford had various clinics for different groups of people, this year all clinics are open to everyone, making it easier for residents to attend.

Those who wish to receive a flu shot must bring their insurance card and photo identification, since the cost of the flu shots will be covered by their insurance provider.

“Even though seniors are especially at high risk, many of them do not receive the flu vaccine”, said East Hartford Mayor Marcia Leclerc. “It is every individual’s responsibility to put prevention to good use and make vaccination part of their routine healthcare.”

The locations of the four Flu Clinics are as follows:

  • October 9th; 3:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m; Public Safety Complex, 31 School Street
  • October 10th; 7:00 a.m. to 10:00 a.m; Public Works, 61 Ecology Drive
  • October 15th; 8:00 a.m. to 10:00 a.m; Public Safety Complex, 31 School Street
  • October 16th, 11:30 a.m. to 2:00 p.m; Town Hall, 740 Main Street

“People can be vaccinated any time, but it takes about two weeks for protection to kick in,” East Hartford Health Director Jim Cordier said. “October is an optimal time to get a shot, as the flu season usually peaks in the winter and can last through May.”

In addition to the four flu clinics the Town of East Hartford is hosting, the East Hartford Senior Center will host a flu clinic for seniors only on October 12, from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the senior center located at 70 Canterbury Street; and on October 19, from 1 to 3:30 p.m. Seniors wishing to get their flu shot should bring their Medicare insurance card and identification.
