Town of East Hartford Recommends Parents and Guardians Vaccinate Age-Eligible Children Against COVID-19

East Hartford COVID Vaccination Clinics for Children

East Hartford, CT— The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) recently recommended the Pfizer COVID-19 vaccine for children five to 11 years of age.  This recommendation is based on a thorough review of data that evaluated the safety and effectiveness of the COVID-19 vaccine among children enrolled in studies that received the Pfizer COVID-19 vaccine.  Studies demonstrate the benefits of COVID-19 vaccination outweigh the known and potential risks of infection due to COVID-19.

The Town of East Hartford recommends parents and guardians vaccinate children five years and older against COVID-19.

“Getting a COVID-19 vaccine not only protects children ages 5 years and older from getting COVID-19, vaccinating children helps to protect family members, especially those who may be at increased risk of getting very sick if they get COVID-19, and siblings who are not yet eligible for vaccination,” said Mayor Marcia Leclerc.

Studies revealed the Pfizer vaccine is 90.7% effective in preventing symptoms due to COVID-19 among young children.  Research has also shown vaccination can reduce the risk of experiencing severe symptoms, hospitalization and death due to COVID-19.
