Radon Awareness Week

Radon Awareness Week

East Hartford, CT - Radon is a colorless, odorless gas that is the second leading cause of lung cancer deaths in the United States after cigarette smoking. Radon can build up in the air in any home or building whether it is new or old. Testing is the only way to find out if your home has elevated radon levels. The DPH Radon Program recommends that Connecticut residents throughout the state test the air in their homes for radon. There is no known safe level of radon and you should always aim to have the lowest level. The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) recommends fixing your home if radon levels are above 4 picoCuries per liter of air (pCi/L).

The East Hartford Health Department has FREE radon test kits available. Stop by the East Hartford Health Department to pick up a free test kit while supplies last. #RadonAwarenessWeek
