Community Naloxone (Narcan) Training April 8th

Community Naloxone (Narcan) Training April 8th

The East Hartford Health Department will offer a FREE Community Naloxone (Narcan) Training at the Community Cultural Center (50 Chapman Place) on Monday, April 8th from 7:00 PM to 8:00 PM. The training will be hosted in the Youth Services Group Room on the basement level of the Community Cultural Center.

This training will provide information on what an opioid is, types of opioids, what an overdose is, how to identify the signs and symptoms of an opioid overdose, how to administer Naloxone (Narcan) during an overdose, local resources, and more.

Opioid misuse is a major public health issue nationally and locally. In 2022, 93% of all fatal, unintentional drug overdoses in Connecticut contained an opioid of some kind. “It’s incredibly important to be aware of the risks of opioid use and how to support others, including the administration of Naloxone during an overdose. Administering Naloxone is simple and can save lives,” said Deputy Director of Health and Human Services, Amanda Garrity.

This training is free and each participant will be provided with a free Naloxone (Narcan) Kit and a Deterra pouch for safe medication disposal.

Please register in advance for this training. For questions and to register for the event, please call the East Hartford Health Department at 860-291-7324.

The Health Department will continue to provide Community Naloxone (Narcan) Trainings periodically throughout the year. Please watch for announcements on the East Hartford Health Department webpage for information on upcoming events.
