East Hartford, CT—The East Hartford Public Library is excited to announce the reopening of the facility to the public for limited access and on a reduced schedule on Tuesday, September 8.

Please be advised, face masks will be required for building entry and social distancing will be strictly enforced.

“Our library staff has been working tirelessly to prepare for a safe reopening to the public,” said Mayor Marcia Leclerc. “As the library reopens for limited access next week, it’s instrumental for all visitors to maintain social distancing measures and wear face masks to ensure the safety and wellbeing of both other patrons and staff.”

The library building will be open during the following hours:

  • Monday and Friday, 10:00 AM—4:00 PM
  • Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday, 10:00 AM—7:00 PM
  • Saturday (walkup window only) 10:00 AM—noon, 2:00—4:00 PM,

During the library’s open hours, the following services will be available:

  • Browsing and checking out new materials for all ages
  • Picking up holds and requests (in the lobby or at the walkup window)
  • Opening or renewing a library card
  • Using a library computer by appointment (limit, one hour per day)
  • Drop-in computer use for brief transactions (15 minutes, no appointment required)
  • Photocopying/printing (self-service)
  • Faxing (self-service)
  • Returning items to our outdoor drop-box (please note that our indoor bookdrop is closed)

Please note that the library’s Makerspace, meeting rooms, study rooms, study tables, and comfy chairs will not be available during this phase of our reopening operations.

All programming will remain virtual, including one-on-one tech help. For the virtual interactive program lineup, please check out the calendar of events on our website here.

In addition to offering physical materials, the Library will continue to provide access to e-books, e-audiobooks, streaming video, and information resources via the Library website. We also continue to provide book selection assistance via our webform—let us help you choose something to read next.

To make a computer appointment, please call the Library at 860-290-4330 during open hours. Due to physical distance requirements, librarians will not be able to provide a one-on-one computer assistance. Please bring a companion if you require assistance. Exact change is required for printing or the excess funds may be applied to future print jobs (25 cents/page).

“We have been working hard behind the scenes to reconfigure our services,” said Library Director Sarah Kline Morgan. “We look forward to safely welcoming our patrons back into the building.”
