The East Hartford Public Library is pleased to announce an exciting lineup of virtual programs for the months of February and March. Enjoy our offerings from the comfort and safety of your own home!

Stories and More!
Wednesdays, 9:30—10:15 AM
Join us for fun with stories, games, fingerplays, music, and more! Have a scarf or something to soft to wave and a shaker or something that makes noise handy to use. What do you love about the library or East Hartford? Is there someone special that you want to know how much you care? Stop by the Walk-Up window to pick up hearts to decorate the windows of the library. Decorate your heart with someone or something that you love. Drop off your hearts and we'll hang them in our windows for everyone to see. We love you, East Hartford! 
 
          Scavenger Hunt Show and Tell
          Tuesday, February 2, 3:00 – 4:00 PM
Love scavenger hunts? Miss show and tell or share? Play along with us as we give you something to find at home and then invite you to share it with us! Categories will be broad so that lots of items can be found. Best for families with children in kindergarten and above. Register here.

Bedtime a struggle? Tired of reading the same books every night? Join us in your jammies to listen to bedtime stories that will send everyone off to bed with sweet dreams. Best suited for families with children ages 2-8 years old. Register here. 
 
          Valentine's Day Crafts for Grades 1-5

Preschool EXPO
Tuesday, February 9, 6:00 PM – 8:00 PM
Do you have a toddler at home? It's time to start thinking about preschool for the 2021-2022 school year. Application deadlines are drawing near! Join us for live online presentations from area preschools and daycare centers, including CREC and magnet schools, to learn more about their programs. Tired of feeling surrounded by grey? Learn about American artist and author Faith Ringgold and how she used bright colors and collage to share her world, then make some bright art of your own. Art and Artists, Ruth Asawa

So much time stuck inside can make it hard to feel creative! Learn about American artist Ruth Asawa and how her sculpture was inspired the everyday things all around her, then make some upcycled art of your own. Galentine's Day Zine

Celebrate Galentine's Day with us over Zoom! Pick up a kit of supplies to create a one-of-a-kind friendship zine to mail to a gal pal. We will guide you step-by-step to make your handmade book and offer inspiration to draw, write, paint, and collage. For teens and adults. Register here.

Meet the Artist: Georges Annan Kingsley
Thursday, February 4, 6:30 PM
Celebrate Black History Month with this spotlight on a local artist! Georges Annan Kingsley, Ivory Coast artist and author, was born in Ghana and educated in the Ivory Coast and in Paris, France, and now resides in Hartford. Georges has worked as an art teacher and community organizer and is the Outreach Specialist at the East Hartford Public Library. Georges will discuss his life and work as a precursor to an exhibit of his work at the library (originally scheduled for January 2021, postponed until the library is fully open to the public). Makerspace Paint Night: Cats and Dogs
Thursday, February 11, 5:00 –7:00 PM
Paint your own cat or dog wooden desk decoration! Drop in anytime between 5:00 – 7:00 PM. Paint will be provided along with the wood cat or dog cutout. You will receive an e-mail when kits are ready to be picked up. Sign up at least 72 hours before the event, please. Register here. 
 
Live at the Makerspace: Tinkercad, Creatures

No-Sew Pet Pillows
Wednesday, February 24, 6:30 PM
Make a no-sew fleece pillow for your pet! Register in advance for a supply kit, and we'll help you to create a pillow over Zoom. No sewing experience necessary. Please provide your own scissors. For teens and adults. Register here. 
 
Makerspace Paint Night: Wood Slice Designs
