East Hartford Public Library Recognizes Black History Month

East Hartford Public Library Recognizes Black History Month

East Hartford, CT - This February, the East Hartford Public Library is celebrating Black History and Black Futures through programming, book displays, and an art show.

Resilience 2: Georges Annan Kingsley

Visit “Resilience 2,” a new exhibit by local artist Georges Annan-Kingsley. This exhibit of paintings, coinciding with Black History Month, includes works that draw on Annan-Kingsley’s roots. Georges S. Annan-Kingsley is an American artist originally from Cote d’Ivoire (West Africa). He holds a Bachelor of Arts in painting from the Applied School of Arts – Bingerville, Cote d’Ivoire as well as a Master of Arts in sculpture from the distinguished École nationale supérieure des Beaux-Arts of Paris, France.  Additionally, he holds a certificate in Art Administration from the Louvre and another certificate in Social Services from Capital Community College, Hartford, Connecticut. The exhibit may be viewed in the atrium area during the library’s open hours through March 3.

Living Room Conversations on Race & Ethnicity

Join us in-person or online for a Living Room Conversation about Race & Ethnicity, co-sponsored by the East Hartford Black Caucus. Living Room Conversations offers a simple, sociable and structured way to practice communicating across differences while building understanding and relationships. Each session will gather 4 - 7 people for about 90 minutes to listen to and be heard by others. Rather than debating or convincing others, we take turns talking to share and learn, and be curious. No preparation is required. Identical sessions will be held daily from Sunday, February 6 to Thursday, February 10, as well as a special session for teens (13 – 18) held on Tuesday, February 22. Sessions will be offered in person or via Zoom (see individual program listings).
