East Hartford, CT— In 2019, the Hartford Foundation for Public Giving established $100,000 community funds for each of the 29 towns in the Foundation’s region, which includes the Town of East Hartford. The purpose of the community funds is to support residents in taking ownership around the needs in their towns and encourage broad and inclusive civic engagement.

East Hartford town residents will play a lead role in deciding how their community funds will be used. The community fund will be managed by an advisory committee of East Hartford residents which will be inclusive, representative and reflective of the residents of the community. The advisory committee will identify community needs and design a grantmaking process aimed to ensure that the community funds can have the greatest impact for the benefit of town residents. Hartford Foundation staff will provide guidance on topics such as participatory decision making, grantmaking and fund development, as needed.

In order to establish the initial advisory committee, a selection committee has been formed to conduct broad outreach to town residents informing them of the opportunity to be a part of this advisory committee and is accepting applications. To be eligible for the advisory committee, you must be a resident of East Hartford, at least 14 years of age, and not a current elected official of East Hartford. Previous experience in community organizations or in grant-making is not needed. Individuals who have not previously participated in community organizations are welcome and encouraged to apply! The application is open from June 7, 2021 to July 2, 2021.
