Motor Vehicle Adjustments Acceptable Forms of Proof

All forms of proof presented are subject to the approval of the Assessor.

Please supply the Assessor's Office with TWO of the following

Vehicle Sold
1.  A copy of the bill of sale with buyer’s signature.
2.  A copy of the new owner’s registration or title.
3.  A copy of your title showing transfer.
4.  A copy of plate cancellation from DMV showing plates RETURNED.
5.  A copy of the invoice showing trade-in vehicle information.
6.  A letter from your insurance agent or company that identifies the vehicle and states that the vehicle was sold and the date of sale.
               
Vehicle Totaled
1.  A letter from your insurance agent or company identifying the vehicle and stating the date that it was totaled.
2.  Receipt from junk dealer or towing company to whom the vehicle was sold.
3.  A copy of plate cancellation from DMV showing plates RETURNED.
       
Vehicle Donated
1.  Letter from the organization describing the vehicle and date of donation.
2.  A copy of plate cancellation from DMV showing plates RETURNED.

Vehicle Registered Out of State
1.  A copy of the original registration in another state or out of state title.
2.  A copy of plate cancellation from DMV showing plates RETURNED.

Vehicle Stolen
1.  A statement from your insurance agent or company stating that the
     vehicle was stolen and not recovered.

Vehicle Repossessed
1.  Letter from the finance company describing the vehicle, stating the date the vehicle was taken and that it was not recovered by you.
2.  Copy of bill of sale or auction papers.

If Taxed in Wrong Town
1.  Proof of residency prior to October 1 (Deed, lease, utility bill or phone bill)
2.  Proof of payment to correct tax town.
3.  Written correction from the DMV.

Registration (Plate) Transferred
If the registration (PLATE) on this vehicle was transferred to another vehicle the current bill is not adjustable, and the payment is due in full. A Supplemental Bill will be sent in December.  This bill will note and apply all credits due between the "old" vehicle and the "new" vehicle.
