Mayor Leclerc Provides Update on Town Operations Amid the Pandemic

mayor leclerc's update

It’s been six months since our communities have been struck by a global pandemic, which continues to affect our personal and professional lives on a daily basis. Nonetheless, East Hartford has operated throughout these challenging times, ensuring continuity of town operations and critical services to our residents.

Our Recovery Team, which consists of representatives from each town department, has been working cooperatively to build a transitioning plan that will be a guide for our employees and the public. We have reviewed our municipal services and developed proposals to reflect our new reality. For months, our Recovery Team has been diligently working on implementation of Governor Lamont’s reopening plans while mirroring the phases of the reopening of our State. Thanks to the hard work and dedication of this group, this week, Town facilities have reopened for very limited access, by appointment only and under strict safety protocols. Our Unified Command Team is appreciative of their dedicated work and the shared efforts of responsibility necessary to take on during this pandemic.

As part of the soft opening, the Town Clerk’s office, Youth Services Department, Public Safety Complex, Senior Services and the East Hartford Public Library began offering in-person services on a limited basis. All visitors are asked to follow established safety guidelines, including but not limited to making appointments in advance, filling out a questionnaire upon arrival and wearing a face mask to enter our facilities.

As we continue to respond to the COVID-19 pandemic, it’s instrumental that we don’t let our guard down and take appropriate safety measures to reduce the spread of the novel coronavirus. I encourage our community to continue to be vigilant and protect yourself and our staff by adhering to social distancing measures, wearing facemasks and following recommended precautions in our facilities and beyond.

Please remember, throughout these past few months, we have developed robust remote services and have been successfully operating remotely, ensuring the needs of our community are met each day. With that said, all town services will continue to be made available remotely and through the town website at www.easthartfordct.gov, online permitting and registration platforms, by phone, mail, email and the drop-box in the Town Hall parking lot. I encourage you to utilize our remote services when possible and call my office with any questions or concerns.

As always, we are working tirelessly to continue to protect our community and employees. I can’t say it enough, your safety is our utmost priority and will remain so as we navigate through recovery. Please continue to use our social media, and the town website to keep abreast of any changes in our operations.
