New Part-time Positions at East Hartford Youth Services

East Hartford Youth Services has two new part-time positions starting this summer. One is a seasonal position that ends in August while the other is an ongoing part-time position within the department.  Both offer a chance to foster mental health wellbeing and positive youth development.  Those interested can apply online - link below - or by reaching out to East Hartford Youth Services directly.

 

Summer Camp Social Workers:

The East Hartford Summer Camp Social Worker is a mental health professional, who will work collaboratively with, East Hartford Library, East Hartford Park & Recreation Summer Camp leadership and staff. 

Summer Camp Social Workers will be in-bedded in the Park & Recreation Department’s Summer Camps to help with the social-emotional – behavioral health issues that might arise.     

Summer Camp Social Workers are responsible for ensuring positive experiences for all campers and resolving issues that may arise during the camp season. This individual is expected to provide campers with the support to make healthy, responsible, and respectful choices. They will also have a role in training staff on topics including but not limited to: managing challenging behaviors and resolving interpersonal disputes, identifying and supporting youth (ages 3 - 15 years) and their parents with resources and referrals as needed.

Approximate camp dates - June 21, 2021 to August 6, 2021. Rate of pay is $24.00 - $30.00 depending on experience.  Social Workers will work approximately 5 to 6 hours per day. There are no benefits with this position.

Youth Engagement and Leadership Mentor:

The Youth Engagement and Leadership Mentor is a dynamic person with a passion for positive youth development, and food/social justice. This is a part-time position that would ideally begin by June 14, 2021.  The Youth Engagement and Leadership Mentor, will begin by working with youth in the Summer Youth Employment and Learning Program (SYELP) in East Hartford and will continue to work with youth during the rest of the fiscal year to develop citizenry projects centered in food/social justice. The work includes visiting job sites, schools and other town facilities as well as participate in virtual platforms. The role combines both direct contact with youth and program development. The position will pay $18 - $28 per hour depending on experience. Total hours for the year TBD with a minimum of 15 hours per week in the summer and availability to extend into the school year.
