East Hartford Youth Services Brings Back Prevention Idol Following a Two-Year Hiatus

East Hartford, CT— The East Hartford Youth Services Department and the East Hartford Local Prevention Council are excited to announce that Prevention Idol is returning following a two-year hiatus caused by the COVID-19 pandemic. East Hartford Local Prevention Council is comprised of people from the East Hartford community who are committed to the prevention of substance use by East Hartford youth.

The East Hartford Youth Services Department is calling on all youth and families within the East Hartford community to demonstrate their talents!

Whether your talent is singing, dancing, dramatic reading, or magic tricks - we want to see it all! So many of our youth and families are incredibly talented, and we cannot wait to show our community just how amazing they are. Participants will also highlight the benefits of living substance free and why they choose to be drug free in a workshop that is required for participation.

Prevention Idol Contest:

This year, Youth Services will accept virtual submissions. The contest consist of five categories:

  • family act
  • dramatic reading/poetry
  • dance
  • vocals
  • instrumental (and other specialty acts).

Registration to participation will be open from March 11th to April 1st and contestants will be asked to submit a video of their performance.

***CLICK HERE TO SUBMIT YOUR ENTRY***

Please be advised, videos must be in an MP4 format, no longer than 5 minutes and under 1 GB in size.

If you need assistance recording your performance, staff at Youth Services will be able to help! Please reach out to us at 860-291-7179 to ask for assistance with your video recording.

If your talent is something that is not traditionally recorded live, we encourage you to find a creative way to showcase your talent in video format. For example, artists can create a time-lapse of them creating their work or create a presentation about their artistic process.

Selection of finalists and voting:

The submission process will close on April 1st at midnight. The panel of judges will select five finalists from each category. Once the finalists are selected, the public will choose the winner by taking a survey that will become available in the end of April, beginning of May. Follow the East Hartford Youth Services Facebook Page at @EHSYB and subscribe to our website at www.easthartfordct.gov to be the first to learn about the voting process in April.

Winners will receive a fun prize! This year’s prizes include a seasonal pass to Six Flags, a night out (dinner & movies), passes to Flight Adventure Park, an East Hartford Youth Services Swag Bag, and others.
