East Hartford Prevention Idol 2019 & East Hartford Service to Youth Award Recognition Ceremony

May 4th 2019 - East Hartford Community Cultural Center
Prevention Idol 2019

The East Hartford Department of Youth Services and the East Hartford Local Prevention Council are sponsoring the 10th annual “Prevention Idol”.  East Hartford Local Prevention Council is comprised of people from the East Hartford community who are committed to the prevention of substance use by East Hartford youth.

East Hartford students in grades 6-12 have been invited to showcase their talents by presenting original songs, dance, poetry, dramatic readings, or similar talent. Local youth groups will present skits that illustrate how substance use negatively impacts lives.  Participants will also highlight the benefits of living substance free.

Youth who want to perform must register by April 26, 2019, audition, and agree to attend the rehearsal happening on Friday, May 3rd.  More information about registration can be found HERE or by calling Jen King, Program Coordinator, at 860-291-7183.

This year “Prevention Idol” will be held Saturday May 4, 2019 at 5 pm at the East Hartford Community Cultural Center. The public is invited to watch, cheer, and vote for their favorite performances.  Fresh popped popcorn and light refreshments will be served. The event is great for youth of all ages so families are encouraged to attend.  Admission is free and there will be door prizes, including an East Hartford Parks & Recreation gift card for summer youth camps!

There will be prizes for participants in a variety of categories.  Prizes in past years have included: Six Flags Season Passes, Launch gift cards, Kindle Fires, and a variety of gift cards.

East Hartford Youth Services will also present the 2019 East Hartford “Service to Youth Award”. The winning individual will be acknowledged for their outstanding service to the youth of East Hartford.

East Hartford’s Prevention Idol is funded by East of the River for Substance Abuse Elimination (ERASE, East Hartford Youth Services)

It is supported by the Office of Community and Family Partnerships and School Based Health Centers run by Intercommunity Inc.
