East Hartford, CT– Mayor Marcia Leclerc is pleased to announce that the Town of East Hartford will offer free curbside collection of brush and debris beginning Monday, August 24th. Following the devastating impact caused by recent Tropical Storm Isaias, Mayor Leclerc has partnered with a contractor to offer free curbside brush pickup for residents to assist them with their cleanup efforts. Pickup will follow a pre-arranged route. Residents do not need to make an appointment to have their brush picked up.

“Tropical Storm Isaias has caused a significant damage to our community and resulted in a large amount of tree limbs and vegetation debris that residents were unable to dispose of themselves, which proved the need for a curbside service” said Mayor Marcia Leclerc. “Please know, the curbside pickup is for brush and vegetation debris only. All other waste must be brought to the transfer station.”

The curbside brush pickup will begin on August 24th. Please make sure to follow the requirements below to ensure your brush is picked up.

  • Curbside Collection – Storm debris waste must be at the curbside by 6:00 a.m. on August 24th when the curbside collection begins.
  • Brush – All brush and logs must be cut to eight (8) feet or less in length.

Branches must be less than 3 inches thick.

Logs greater than 3 inches in diameter must be separated from branches and smaller brush.

Stumps & Roots less than twenty-four (24) inches in diameter will be picked up with other logs. Stumps and roots larger than twenty-four (24) inches in diameter should be kept separate from other debris.

  • Leaves and Shrubbery Trimmings resulted from the storm should be piled at the curb separately from other debris. Loose leaves and shrubbery must be placed in paper bags to be picked up.  Leaves and shrubbery placed in plastic bags, garbage containers or cardboard boxes will not be picked up.

Please understand, if the abovementioned requirements aren’t followed, your debris will not be picked up.

Residents may continue to bring their storm debris to the Transfer Station. The Transfer Station will remain open through Saturday, August 22nd for extended hours: Monday-Friday 7 am to 6 pm, and Saturday 7 am to 2:45 pm. This week no bulky waste permit will be required for brush disposal.

The Transfer Station will resume regular transfer station hours starting Monday, August 24th.
