Summer Hours Program Pilot

Beginning June 3, 2024, the Town of East Hartford will launch a 14-week pilot program for revised hours of in-person Town Hall (740 Main Street) and Community Cultural Center (50 Chapman Place) services. This program aims to expand hours of access to accommodate residents who may need in-person services during the lunch hour, or evening access after 4:30pm.

Town Hall employees will observe a shortened lunch hour (30 minutes), as well as extend in-person services hours on Thursday evenings until 5:30pm. In order to account for extended hours Monday-Thursday, the program will also assess the feasibility and effectiveness of a shortened workweek, with participating offices closing at 12:30pm on Fridays.

The pilot program will run from June 3rd through September 6th, 2024, with offices operating with the following hours:

Monday        8:30 am to 4:30 pm
Tuesday       8:30 am to 4:30 pm
Wednesday  8:30 am to 4:30 pm
Thursday      8:30 am to 5:30 pm
Friday            8:30 am to 12:30 pm

The pilot program impacts the following municipal departments: Assessor's Office, Building and Inspections, Corporation Counsel, Development, Engineering, Finance, Grants, Health and Human Services (to include Youth Services/Social Services), Human Resources, Mayor’s Office, Parks and Recreation, Probate Court for the District of East Hartford, Purchasing, Tax Office, and Town Council Office. (***Registrar of Voters was previously listed as participating in the Summer Hours pilot but as of 5/23/2024 will not be affected by the program).

The following departments and services will not be included in the Summer Hours pilot program and will retain their standard hours of service: East Hartford Libraries, Senior Services, both Fire and Police departments, Public Works, and WIC (which is housed in the Community Cultural Center). (***Registrar of Voters was previously listed as participating in the Summer Hours pilot but as of 5/23/2024 will not be affected by the program).

Assessment of the success of this pilot program will include consideration of and consultation with municipal employees and stakeholders. Throughout the pilot program, feedback from employees and residents will be solicited and evaluated to assess the program's impact and effectiveness. The insights gathered will inform future decisions regarding work arrangements within the municipality.

The Town currently offers and continues to expand online services, such as paying taxes, applying for permitting, and looking up property assessment. These online services, which are available any day of the year, at any time, help to improve efficiency and overall accessibility.
