Tax Credit for Elderly & Totally Disabled Homeowners (State Program)

Filing Dates
Applications for this program are accepted between February 1st and May 15th at least every two years.

If you are presently on the Elderly Program and it is time for you to renew, you will receive the application in the mail.

Program Requirements

1. Be at least 65 years of age as of December 31, 2023 or you must be over 18 and permanently and totally disabled. Proof of 100% disability from Social Security (form TPQY) required.
 
2. Own the property or hold a tenancy for life or for a term of years, which makes the applicant liable for payment of taxes (CGS Sec. 12-48). The property must be the applicant’s primary residence as of October 1, 2023.
 
3. Be a permanent resident of the State of Connecticut as of October 1, 2023.
 
4. Meet income limits determined by the State. The 2023 income limits are $53,400 for married persons, $43,800 for single.
 
5. Include a copy of your 2023 Federal Income Tax Return if you have filed one, and Social Security 1099 forms.
 

If no income tax return was filed, please submit these proofs of income for 2023 with your application:

  • Total income (all sources)
  • Social Security income (form SSA 1099)
  • Pension Benefits
  • Interest statements, dividends from stocks & bonds
  • Railroad Retirement
