East Hartford Dial-a-Ride (in-town rides)
The East Hartford Senior Center has a partnership with Hockanum Valley Community Council to provide FREE transportation to our East hartford Seniors. This service is open to East Hartford residents who are at least 60 years of age. Residents can ride free Monday through Friday 8:30am (first pickup) to 4:00pm (last return). Transportation is available to and from the Senior Center, in addtion to the following locations; Doctor’s appointments in East Hartford, Glastonbury and Manchester, work, banks, post office, pharmacies, and grocery stores.
To reserve your ride simply call East Hartford Dial-a-Ride at (860) 870-7940 to register over the phone and set up your transportation. Please note, at this time due to COVID, bus capacity is limited to six (6) passengers for any given trip. We appreciate your patience as we work to keep passengers and drivers safe.
ADA Paratransit Service (out-of-town rides)
Provided by the Greater Hartford Transit District this transportation is for individuals who have a disability or specific impairment-related condition that prevents them from traveling to or from a bus stop on the public bus system. This service is designed to meet the Americans with Disabilities Act criteria established by the Federal Government. ADA Paratransit operates (7 days) per week, Monday through Sunday from 7:00 a.m.. to 10:00 p.m.. The transportation covers trips to Avon, Berlin, Bloomfield, Bristol, Cromwell, East Hartford, Ellington, Farmington, Glastonbury, Hartford, Manchester, New Britain, Newington, Plainville, Rocky Hill, South Windsor, Vernon/Rockville, West Hartford, Wethersfield, Windsor, and Windsor Locks. To apply for this service please contact Greater Hartford Transit District. Application forms can be found online here or can be requested by calling (203) 365-8522 ext. 273. Once approved for ADA paratransit you may call (860) 724-5340 for a ride.
There is a $3.50 charge per ride paid to the driver or you may purchase ticket books for $24.00 for ten (10) rides from Social Services or Senior Services while supply lasts. Books of tickets may also be purchased from Stop & Shop for $28.00 per book. This is the only transportation for out of town locations.
Town Senior Bus - (unavailable at this time)
The Senior Center bus is used on Thursday, Friday and Sunday for trips for educational, recreational, socialization and shopping purposes. Examples are U.S.. Coast Guard Band Concert, Dogwood Festival, Woodstock Fair, Cracker Barrel & Walmart to name just a few. Trips are planned a month in advance. There is no fee for this transportation.
