Biography - Director of Human Resources Tyron Harris

Tyron Harris was appointed as the Director of Human Resources on March 7, 2022. As the Director of Human Resources, Mr. Harris is responsible for providing quality human resource management, training, and technical and labor relations services to all Town departments in order to establish and maintain a productive and responsive workforce to meet the needs of the community and Town employees.

Mr. Harris is an award winning Community Organizer and highly skilled Human Resources practitioner with over 12 years of experience in the field of internal and external communication, and advocacy for parents and children's rights. Prior to being employed by the Town of East Hartford, Mr. Harris  was the Director of Human Resources held Human Resources leadership positions with several organizations, including Target Corp, ADP, My People Clinical Services, and most recently, Wadsworth Museum as the Head of Human Resources. He is also a member of the East Hartford, CT board of education, a position to which he was elected in 2009 and re-elected in 2013, 2017, and 2021. He currently serves as the chair of the East Hartford Board of Education. 

Mr. Harris graduated from the Berkeley College of New York, NY, with a BBA in Management concentration in Human Resources.  He received an Advanced Certificate in Strategic Human Resources from Cornell University and holds a certification in Building A Resilient Nonprofit Culture.  Mr. Harris has a broad and varied community service background,  having served on or co-chaired several boards - some with an education focus and others with a community focus.  Mr. Harris has extensive community organizing, event logistics, and fundraising experience. Still, he is best known for his relationship-building skills and ability to share these skills through speaking engagements and keynotes. Mr. Harris is also a member of the East Hartford Lions Club. Mr. Harris is also a member, and current chapter President of Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity Inc., Beta Sigma Lambda Chapter, and Vice President of Beta Sigma Lambda Educational Foundation Inc. Mr. Harris was the chair of the Civic Engagement and Advocacy Chair, Urban League of Greater Hartford Young Professionals.
