East Hartford, CT— The Connecticut River Valley Chamber of Commerce has awarded Mayor Marcia Leclerc with its first annual Community Luminary Award at a special virtual ceremony on Thursday, July 16. The award recognizes strong women who’ve made significant contributions to their communities.

“I am very grateful to be a recipient of the Community Luminary Award,” said Mayor Marcia Leclerc. “It is a privilege to serve as East Hartford’s Mayor and my affection and dedication to the town and our tight-knit community remains constant. To every woman out there—there is a place for you in all aspects of our society. A place where you can share your talents and develop yourself. I urge all women to support other women. Together, we can make a difference in the world. ”

Throughout her tenure, Mayor Leclerc has demonstrated an unwavering commitment to economic development, customer service, attention to detail and creating and ensuring a balanced budget. Additionally, she has introduced a number of initiatives, including the establishment of the Silver Lane Redevelopment Group, Main Street Improvement Committee, the East Hartford Citizen's Academy, and the Healthy East Hartford Program, while securing funds and completing the renovation and expansion of the Raymond Library and the construction of Fire Station No. 5 which has received LEED® Gold certification from the U.S. Green Building Council (USGBC), making it the first fire station in Connecticut to achieve such a designation.

Additionally, Mayor Leclerc spearheaded the enrollment of the East Hartford Police Department into the CALEA Program that led to the department’s successful national accreditation. The accreditation is an instrumental accomplishment that recognizes the police department’s full commitment to ensuring the safety and wellbeing of the East Hartford community and compliance with international standards of 21st century policing.

Community involvement has always been Mayor Leclerc’s priority. To maintain a positive relationship with her community and local business owners, Mayor Leclerc initiated a variety of outreach programs, such as “Lunch with the Mayor” and “Business Visitations” to hear from the community first-hand. To further foster community involvement and pride, with Mayor Leclerc’s support, the East Hartford Library began offering a stream of programs on leadership under the “Propel East Hartford” initiative to benefit our community and engage individuals in ways that are meaningful and exciting. Additionally, every year Mayor Leclerc brings the community together for the “Mayor’s Cleanup,” to revitalize and beautify our town and inspire a sense of pride within our community.
