Summer Goes On at East Hartford Parks and Recreation: Summer Camp Registration Opens Thursday, June 18th

summer camps 2020

Registration is open!

East Hartford, CT—The Town of East Hartford is excited to announce that we will be offering a modified version of our Parks and Recreation summer camps this year. After taking into consideration all state and federal guidelines, as well as input from those in the East Hartford’s community who participated in our recent survey, our traditional summer camp program has been restructured to ensure the safety of both participants and staff.  We are pleased to be able to offer this 6-week program to the East Hartford community.

Our 2020 Summer Camp will begin on Monday, July 6, 2020, and will be held Monday through Friday, from 8am-4pm, closing for the summer on Friday, August 14, 2020.  Camp will be open to children ages 5-12 (Five year-olds who register for camp must have completed a full year of kindergarten).  Registration is available on a first-come, first-served basis, beginning Thursday, June 18th at 9am.  In order to accommodate as many residents as possible, our 2020 Summer Camp will be open only to East Hartford residents. Non-residents are not eligible to register this year.

East Hartford Parks and Recreation Summer Camp will operate at three sites this summer:

  • Gorman Park / Lord Pool
  • Goodwin School / Goldstar Pool
  • Hockanum School / Terry Pool

Due to reduced capacity allowances, camps will be restricted to a maximum of 50 children per site.  Children will be placed in groups of 10 and will have a space designated solely to their group, to promote social distancing protocols and safety procedures, and limit contact with other groups. For additional modifications to the camps' operation, please see this link.

Camp staff will be wearing masks for the safety of all participants, instituting wellness checks, ensuring increased hand-washing and the use hand-sanitizer stations, as well as maintaining social distance when possible. Children will participate in an exciting array of activities, games, crafts, meal times, and opportunities for supervised recreational swim and/or water play within their groups. While we are unable to provide field trips due to restrictions on bus transportation, we will instead focus on providing on-site entertainment and other special guests and activities.

Most importantly, our goal is to provide participants with much-needed time to socialize with peers, enjoy the outdoors, and stay active this summer.

Registration will be accepted beginning Thursday, June 18th at 9am. Spaces are limited.  The fee for the entire 6-week program is $498 per child for all 6 weeks, or just $83 per child per week.
