Mayor Leclerc Throws First Pitch at EH Little League Opening Ceremony

East Hartford, CT – Mayor Marcia A. Leclerc threw the first pitch at the East Hartford Little League Opening Ceremony Saturday at Gorman Park. Over 20 little league teams with a combined total of around 400 kids attended the ceremony, and will play this spring in ten divisions. Kid Governor Elena Tipton threw out the league’s second pitch of the season. The East Hartford Police Color Guard was on hand for the playing of the National Anthem, and a delegation from the East Hartford Fire Department also attended.

“It is a pleasure to throw the first pitch each year to kick off what should be a great and eventful season,” said Mayor Leclerc. “Little League is a fantastic activity for young boys and girls, it teaches principles of sportsmanship and fair play that are invaluable to young people, as well as the great and historic game of baseball. I especially want to recognize and thank the parents and coaches who put in the effort supporting their children and the community.”

“Little league is about community,” said East Hartford Little League President Todd Tofil. “The kids get to know each other, whether they attend different schools, or live a few doors apart. They learn to work together as a team, while building character. It’s also about a community of dedicated adults who devote their time to making the league run.”

East Hartford Little League runs youth baseball and softball for kids ages 4-15. There are seven baseball and three softball divisions. Games will run from this week through the end of June. Those interested in learning more can visit them on the web at ehll.org.
