Library to Host "Smart is Cool" event at Raymond Library on October 22

To celebrate the International “Smart is Cool Day,” the East Hartford Public Library invites all kids in grades K-6 to submit a poster, craft or any creation by October 20 to Sandra DiCicco, Children’s Librarian, that exemplifies what “Smart is Cool” means to them for a “science fair” type of event at Raymond Library on October 22, from 6-8 p.m.

For the first time in library history, East Hartford kids will be able to partake in “Smart is Cool,”   an international initiative which works to redefine what the word "smart" means. For all kids in K-6 interested in submitting a project, some examples include: a poster on a topic that interests the submitter, a crocheted item, a poem, or any cool project made from your own two hands. Submissions will then be set up in the library and displayed at a "science fair type" event where all products will be put on display to showcase what "smart is cool" means to them. This event is not meant to be a competition, but a friendly community event where kids come together to see what others do. In addition to the showcase of projects, a special proclamation from Mayor Leclerc will also be read and fun activities like Snap Circuits, Goldie Blox, LEGOs, a 'learn to code” station will be set up for all participants of the event.

All interested participants with questions may call Sandra DiCicco at 860-290-4332 or email her at sdicicco@easthartfordct.gov.
