East Hartford Library Children's March Programs

  • Read Across America Day

On Saturday, March 2, join us at the East Hartford Public Library for a lineup of events in honor of “Read Across America Day.” At 11:00 AM, we’ll celebrate Dr. Seuss’s birthday. Listen to the story “To think that I saw it on Mulberry Street,” learn about music and musicians, make a shake egg, and sing Happy Birthday! For families with children ages 2 years and older accompanied by a caregiver.

All day, we’ll have a challenge available in the children’s room: how tall can you stack the Cat in the Hat’s hat? Have you ever played piano on a banana? Give it a try with our all-day Makey Makey demo, also available in the children’s room. Both activities are suitable for all ages. Registration is not required for Read Across America Day. The East Hartford Public Library is located at 840 Main St., East Hartford.

  • March is for Music at the East Hartford Public Library

Families are invited to join us for two musical events to be held in the month of March at the East Hartford Public Library.

On Saturday, March 9 at 3:00 PM, we’ll offer an opportunity to “Meet the Cello.” Are you curious about the cello? Drop in to learn more about this beautiful instrument with East Hartford resident and Hartford Symphony principal cellist Jeffrey Krieger. All ages are welcome, and no registration is required. “Meet the Cello” is presented with funding support from the Music Performance Trust Fund.

On Saturday, March 23 at 3:00 PM, music aficionados of all ages will enjoy an exciting performance of Sergei Prokofiev’s Peter and the Wolf. Each character in the story is given its own music, and played to perfection by members of the Kelet Ensemble, who have rearranged the composition to fit their instruments. Everyone will enjoy this tale of cunning, bravery, and skill! This program is sponsored by the East Hartford Commission on Culture and Fine Arts. Register for a reminder, or just drop in.
