East Hartford Department of Public Works Debuts Yard Waste Collection Program

Effective Monday, June 13, leaves, brush, twigs, and grass clippings can be deposited at the transfer station

Mayor Marcia A. Leclerc and Public Works Director Tim Bockus are pleased to announce that residents may now drop off yard waste at the Town Transfer Station at 61 Ecology Drive. This new collection program will be offered April through November each year.

“This program is a great addition to the services our fantastic Department of Public Works provides to the East Hartford community,” said Mayor Marcia A. Leclerc.  “This will greatly assist residents in keeping up their properties, recycling yard waste into a valuable resource, and preventing such waste from rotting in landfills.”

“I am pleased that we are now able to accept grass clippings as part of this program,” said Director of Public Works Tim Bockus. “State regulations do not allow East Hartford to process grass clippings at the Town’s leaf composting facility, and residents may not place them in their trash barrels. Our new vendor has the ability to process this material.”

Branches, twigs, leaves, and grass clippings may be mixed together in biodegradable yard waste bags (available at most hardware stores). The yard waste may not contain garbage, soil, or rocks. Loose yard waste, with the exception of large tree branches, and yard waste in plastic bags will not be accepted. Information about curbside bagged leaf and yard waste collection will be released later in the summer.
