Excessive Heat Advisory

through Sunday, July 5
Excessive Heat Advisory

Governor Ned Lamont has activated the Extreme Hot Weather Protocol due to a long-duration heat wave. The protocol is in effect through at least Sunday, July 5 at 6:00 p.m.

The National Weather Service has issued an Extreme Heat Watch for most of the area during this period, and Connecticut has the potential to reach the warning-level criteria. Peak temperatures are expected during the afternoon hours of Thursday, July 2, 2026, and Friday, July 3, 2026, when highs are expected to reach 100 degrees and heat indices could climb up to 110 degrees each day.

The Town of East Hartford reminds residents to take precautions to protect themselves, their families, and pets from the heat.

LOCAL RESOURCES:

HOT WEATHER SAFETY TIPS:

  • Stay in an air-conditioned environment as much as possible.
  • If your home does not have air-conditioning, seek out air-conditioned public spaces (i.e. malls, libraries) or cooling centers by calling 2-1-1. Raymond Library will be open on Friday, July 3, 9:00 a.m.- 5:00 p.m.
  • Use fans, but only if indoor temperatures are less than 90°F. In temperatures above 90°F, a fan can increase body temperature.
  • Limit outdoor activity to when it is coolest: early in the morning or later in the evening.
  • When outside, try to stay in the shade.
  • Don't forget to use and reapply sunscreen every two hours! Look for sunscreens with UVA and UVB protection and SPF 30 or greater.
  • When exercising or working outside, take breaks often.
  • Reduce exercise levels when in extreme heat.
  • Take a cool shower to cool off.
  • Stay hydrated!
  • Do not leave children or pets in cars! During heat waves, the internal temperature of a car can heat up faster than you would think!
  • Check on your friends and family throughout the day who are at higher risk.
  • Wear lightweight and loose fitting clothing and limit time outdoors.
