East Hartford Police Chief Scott Sansom would like to remind residents that aerial fireworks are prohibited by state law for use by non-professional and non-licensed users.

The increased use of illegal fireworks in East Hartford’s neighborhoods is a nuisance that negatively impacts our community and causes discomfort to all residents, including those most vulnerable such as children, elderly adults and pets. Aerial and explosive fireworks are extremely dangerous. The hot debris can land anywhere causing serious and even fatal injuries, fires and significant property damage.

Illegal fireworks are even be more dangerous in the hands of children and young adults. They can cause serious personal injury, including burns and loss of hands, as well as cause fires and property damage. Be safe and leave fireworks to the professionals.

Residents are asked to call the East Hartford Police Department at 860-528-4401 if they observe aerial or explosive fireworks being used.

“Please report them at the time they are occurring with as many details as possible, including specific areas where these fireworks are being launched to allow our officers to investigate and take appropriate actions,” said Police Chief Scott Sansom.
