Town of East Hartford to Conduct Railroad Stop-Log Exercise

Exercise Will Close CT Southern Railroad Track Behind Cedar St. on Saturday, October 21
2016 Stop Log Exercise

The Town of East Hartford will conduct a stop-log exercise for the levee gate located on the railroad tracks behind 12 Cedar Street in East Hartford. The exercise is scheduled to take place beginning at 6:00 am on Saturday, October 21, 2017, and last approximately 6 hours. Cedar Street and other adjacent streets should not be affected. Operation of all businesses within the area will not be impacted.

“The stop-log exercise will allow us to evaluate the operational readiness of multiple town agencies to respond to a flood emergency,” said Mayor Leclerc. “It will also allow those agencies to interact with railroad officials in a simulated real life scenario.”

The scope of this exercise is to provide real life experience to personnel from several town agencies and Connecticut Southern Railroad in responding to a flood emergency in East Hartford. It will involve erecting the complete stop-log structure across the railroad tracks, behind the businesses on Cedar Street. This exercise will allow officials to test the updated Operations and Maintenance Manual for the Flood Protection System, as well as the Weather Annex within the Town of East Hartford Emergency Operations Plan.
