Library Board Meeting – 17 March 2014
Meeting called to order at 6:31 pm by Library Chair Gloria V. Lupi.

Librarians Report by Susan Hansen
Flood occurred in the adult library area due to a broken valve under the street. MDC repaired the problem during the closing of the library for one week.
Saturday March 1st, the budget was presented to Town Council members. The presentation went very well. The town council did cut five thousand dollars from utilities. The remainder of the budget is intact. Twenty one families attended Dr. Seuss night. Teen tech week March 9th-15th
Students were introduced to a new programming language called Scratch. It is a new programming language created by MIT.
The library offered the use of IPAD’S to the students during tech week and they were thrilled to use the app to create a video.
Adult programs - -one last session for the affordable health care act
Monday Wednesday and Friday’s software classes are offered to adults
Database is accessible for jobs and resume building sessions
Money Smart week is coming up to promote financial literacy. (April) Money Management International is the group that is sponsoring this event
Program calendar is online and will be connected to the website
Jose Maldonado is retiring. He has been in service for thirty years. His retirement date is April 11, 2014.
The attorney is still spending time in the library helping people who need it.
The library construction is underway.
April 28 and 29 is the library conference
Workshops for library board members are available
There is a budget for the board which is accessible
The staff members of the library can attend at Susan’s discretion
Todney is going to attend the conference. He is going to the Common Core presentation and the Grant me the Money presentation.
Madame Chair Gloria Lupi is also attending.
Motion approved for Gloria and I to attend the conference
Madame Chair will register us for the conference

The conference is held in Cromwell. The information can be found at the Connecticut library association annual conference information page.
April meeting is cancelled. The conference will take the place of the meeting. We will all meet again on May 19th.
