Woman at War - Movie Screening

East Hartford, CT - The Town of East Hartford’s Commission on Culture and Fine Arts presents their Saturday Night Cinema series this Saturday, April 9, 2022 in the auditorium of the East Hartford Community Cultural Center, 50 Chapman Place, at 7 PM. This is a continuation of the Commission’s 14th annual international film series, begun in 2020. This month’s film is Woman at War from Iceland (2019). The screening is free.  If weather is a concern, watch Channel 3 – if Parks & Recreation activities are cancelled, the film will be postponed.

In Woman at War, Halla, behind a life of quiet routine, leads a double life as a passionate environmental activist, waging a one-woman-war on the local aluminum industry. As her actions grow bolder, she succeeds in pausing the negotiations between the Icelandic government and the corporation building a new aluminum smelter. But right as she begins planning her biggest and boldest operation yet, she receives an unexpected letter that changes everything: a little Ukrainian girl is waiting for Halla to adopt her.

“…Woman at War strikes a near perfect balance between delivering a character study, an urgent environmental and societal message and some good old-fashioned entertainment through a genuine and warm tale of one woman’s stubborn efforts to be on the right side of history.” [Tomris Laffly for rogerebert.com]

The film is not rated and runs 101 minutes.  For any additional information on Saturday Night Cinema, call (860) 528-0176.
