Update on Stonebridge Apartments Incident

East Hartford, CT – On Monday, July 25th, the Town of East Hartford was notified of a water issue at Stonebridge Apartment Complex located at 96 Silver Lane. The Fire Department was dispatched to water in the basement. Upon arrival, personnel found about five feet of water from a leaking water pipe that submerged the utility room.

The Inspections and Permits Department staff were called on scene and the out-of-state owner was contacted. Upon arrival, the owner hired a contractor to begin pumping out the utility room to assess the needed repairs. The contractor is working on behalf of the property owner and repairs are ongoing at this time.

Due to code violations and the ongoing lack of hot water, the building was placarded and deemed unfit for occupation. The East Hartford Health and Social Services Department was on scene to assist with relocation of tenants occupying approximately 43 units. All costs associated with the relocation are the responsibility of the apartment complex owner.

Once repairs are completed and the building is re-inspected to the standards of the Town of East Hartford’s property maintenance code, the placard may be removed. Occupation of the building will not be permitted until the placard is removed following a satisfactory re-inspection.

The Town will communicate further updates when they become available.
